Savings Hacks & Tips for First TransPennine Express

Railcard Discounts: Unlock 1/3 Off Standard Fares

One of the most consistent ways to save on First TransPennine Express train fares is by using railcards.

• 16-25 Railcard: Offers a one-third discount on standard fares for young adults and students (First TransPennine Express official railcards).
• HM Forces Railcard: Military personnel qualify for a one-third discount (source).
• Senior Railcard: Seniors receive up to 33% off fares (source).
• Family & Friends Railcard: Provides 1/3 off adult fares and 60% off child fares for group travelers (source).
• Disabled Persons Railcard: Offers one-third off fares for eligible passengers (source).

Using these railcards consistently cuts costs by a third on most journeys. You can always find the latest First TransPennine Express promo codes on our dedicated store page.

Advance Purchase Discounts: Book Early to Save

Booking Advance tickets can significantly lower your fare. These discounted tickets apply to specific trains on fixed dates and times. They usually cannot be refunded without penalty, and a £10 admin fee applies if you amend or cancel more than 28 days before your journey (official ticket types). Early planning is key to unlocking these savings.

Off-Peak Fares: Save by Traveling During Less Busy Times

Choosing Off-Peak fares is another smart way to cut expenses. These tickets are valid on less busy trains during specific times, offering more flexibility than Advance tickets and encouraging quieter travel periods (source).

Ticket Delivery Options: Choose What Works Best

You can select from various ticket delivery methods. Most travelers prefer free e-tickets or mobile tickets for instant and convenient access. If you want a physical ticket, expect a £1.50 delivery fee with arrivals within 3-5 working days (ticket delivery policy).

Holiday Sales: Watch for Special Promotional Fares

While First TransPennine Express does not publicly disclose specific holiday sales, special promotional fares sometimes appear around peak travel seasons. I advise checking their official site before holiday trips to capitalize on any offers. You can also browse the latest coupons across every store we track before you book.

By combining railcard discounts, advance bookings, off-peak travel, and savvy ticket delivery choices, you can save a substantial portion of your train fare. To start stacking savings, activate First TransPennine Express discounts now.
